There is a planned day of strike action on Wednesday 26 March 2014. Firstly, it is worth mentioning that this action is not against Stafford Junior School. The action is part of the on-going dispute with the Secretary of State for Education around pay, pensions and conditions. Secondly, there is no requirement on the union to inform us of which members of staff will take action, and it may be that they will not know themselves, as there is no obligation on members of unions to obey a strike call.
Neither the Governing Body nor I, are legally allowed to close Stafford Junior School “in sympathy” with the strike and we will not do so. The school will only close if we are unable to guarantee safe staff/pupil ratios. If the school does remain open, it is unlikely that lessons will follow the normal timetable. As soon as I have further information, I will write to you as well as update the school website. However, because we may not know until very late how many staff will be available to work, the decision to close may have to be taken at the last minute. We must all hope that the ongoing issues over which the industrial action has arisen, are resolved as soon as possible.
